I still haven't picked a day for the party. My parents are flying up tomorrow for my son's birthday. Idk if we should have it this weekend, or the 5th on his birthday. I want to do something smallish here at home.

Do you have any favorite smash cake recipes?
Does anyone know of any good soy/dairy/sugar free cake recipes (for my mom)?
What are some easy ways to decorate?

I need all the ideas I can get :)

I am diabetic and you can find the cake mixes in the diet foods section at the commy. I always shop at the McChord commy, but I am sure the one here on main post has the same? Hope this helps. There is also sugar free icing.

As for the party, it's mostly for you and the family. baby won't remember it. Just make it fun and short. Too much tends to crank out little ones! (at least that's how mine were at that age)Smash cakes are cute and fun for baby. Hope you all enjoy and Happy First Year to your angel.

I did a cars theme. Not Cars the movie, just vehicles. Dollar tree decorations, black plastic table cloth, with yellow duct tape to be the dotted center line of a road lol. I bought the smash cake we used from a local person, but I was displeased, and it made my kid throw up. It was basically a cake frosted in colored butter.

This is a good thing to look for in Pinterest :) I'll look!

Can your mom do sugar substitutes? Like stevia?

Shelley S --- 12 years ago -

Both of my kids first birthdays were pretty much a cake for them to dig into and another cake for guests. I pretty much took them from high chair to bathtub in one motion lol

AwesomeSauce --- 12 years ago -

Haha thats exactly how ours went. Played with it, made a giant mess, threw up lol

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

she does stevia. :) yay i'm out of the ice box! woot!
she also will have honey in moderation.

I pretty much took them from high chair to bathtub in one motion lol

Carrot cake really is the healthiest and if you go online you will find a ton of easy recipes. Well I use easy lightly.

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

I've grown up making things with a muffin texture:p. i think i'll end up making something gluten free (for him only.)

AwesomeSauce --- 12 years ago -

I've been seeing a bunch of carrot or pumpkin recipes. One apple cake if you substitute a few things.

when he feeds himself VERY little ends up getting swallowed, so I'm not that worried. I might as well make one batter for everyone though, so I need something tasty

gluten/dairy/soy/sugar free...... hmmmm bobs red mill..

Sandra --- 12 years ago -

What if you give J a yummy cupcake stacked with frosting and maybe sprinkles instead of a cake just in case?

ArmyWife2010 --- 12 years ago -

For my older son I did just the "number 1" theme. Easy enough and got all the decorations on clearance from party city. My youngest turns 1 in a month and Ill probably do the same.

Does anyone have the huge cupcake cakepan? I'm wanting to do the cupcake smashcake but found out the pans are $30 and my husband said no to buying it for a one time use.

ArmyWife2010 --- 12 years ago -

I DO!! lol Ive only used it once too. The pans are crazy I got mine from william and sonoma (dont know if they have that here)

Megan LeeAnne --- 12 years ago -

Never heard of it lol. Could I borrow it?

ArmyWife2010 --- 12 years ago -

yeah not a problem. When do you need it?

Megan LeeAnne --- 12 years ago -

Probably June 15-16th. I want to make a trial run and then the real one bc I know my baking skills and well....yeah, self explanitory lol. But I need to make sure the photographer is available first so I'll let you know for sure when I hear back from her.

ArmyWife2010 --- 12 years ago -

Yeah just let me know. There is definitely takes practice with the baking times for that pan. When I made my daughters it was her first bday...shes now gonna be 6 on june 26...wow cant believe Ive had the pan that long lol. Anyways...it took me like 4 cakes to make the perfect one and it was the night before too.

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -
