I am from California and usually get my hair done at my regular place when I visit family... but I really want a hair cut it has been months!! Are there any good places around here... I went to the salon at the px a while ago and they messed it up... and since then I have been afraid to go get it done..

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

Good question. I chickened out when I was searching and ended up chopping my own after watching youtube videos. I think the ritz is decent but they charge a lot.

this choppy job actually is what gave me ideas haha

trim tips

Anywhere but WA.

Seriously, do a search on here for hair or haircuts or whatever and you will find a whole bunch of posts about places people recommend. I have not had one decent cut or color the entire time I've lived here.

Places I would really strongly highly recommend you stay away from...the place in Dupont next to the nail place on the McDonald's side, and The Salon Professional Academy in Tacoma. Seriously, my hair is still jacked up from when they touched it over a year ago. All I asked them to do was curl it. She put crazy rollers in my hair (which I told her wouldn't work but she promised to fix with a curling iron if they didn't, and she didn't). My scalp got burned under the dryer and when she took the rollers out my hair broke off all over my head. I have come to the conclusion it's never growing back. Oh, and bonus! I refused to pay and they told me they'd call the cops if I didn't. Nice, and so much for professional.

thank god my hair is easy lol. face frame and round it into the back...basicly cut it like a horseshoe lol. no colors no crazyness lol. good luck on your search tho!

Yeah, mine is easy too. It is (well, was) all one length. All I ever ask them to do is trim about 2" off the ends, straight across. I used to get it dyed one color to cover my grey. And trust me, I'm not picky! All I ask is that they don't burn me, stab me with scissors, and do exactly what I ask, nothing more. I have been burned, stabbed, now have layers I didn't want, I've been given bangs I didn't ask for, and once I had my hair dyed a crazy strawberry blond when I was asked for brown.

My hair is pretty easy too... I have some highlights(which can be done in Cali) and a few layers... when I went for a trim at the px she just chopped up my hair... I mean my 3 year old can give me a crappy hair cut for free... I guess I will look around and if I find one that works for me then I will let everyone know..

Do NOT go to Asami Day Spa and Salon is Lakewood. First it takes so long for anyone to even call you back to make and appt there. They used to be called Head to Toe. They are almost right across from Clover park High School in Lakewood on Gravelly Lake Dr. i thought it would be nice, but they are rude, rude, rude! I went to the place several times trying to make an appt when they were supposed to be open and no one was there. Had I not bought a Groupon I would have never went back. They rushed me when I got there early. She messed up in several places in the back and side of my hair when I asked her to layer it. I had to fix her chop ups when I got home and my kids noticed how uneven it was. i had several long pieces where the rest was cut short. It is a very tiny place and way too many people booked at once, so they feel like they need to do a rush job on your hair to get you out and to the next person.

There is a Salon off of Bridgeport Way in Lakewood that is real old school, old timey. Mostly older women working there. Looks like you may get an old lady do, but surprisingly they are to to date and really on their toes with the styles. They do an amazing job and I could not remember the last time I just told a hair stylist once what I wanted, showed a pic and walked out 1005 happy and feeling better I had an awesome hair do!
It's called Violet's. Ask for Helen she is amazing! Although Violet is amazing as well. Helen is my fav. They serve cookies, tea, hot coco, water, all home baked as they did back in the day. Very sweet place and truly care about your business and that you walk away happy.

Try Salon prodigy on Bridgepont I use shayla/ shauna shes a white girl and I am a mixed raced. I am pretty simple wash blow dry flat iron. She is is awesome was 23 bucks and they do military discount. I am very picky about who does my hair. I dislike the PX on Mcchord especially since it changed to Paul Mitchell they think they are high class or something. Mariosol on bridgeport by safeway good she did a trim on my hair. good luck.

Check out Deez Dooz on Facebook. Her name is Deeane and she is amazing. Super cool chick and easy to talk to. She is located in Spanaway. Tried several different places until finally someone recommended her to me. Best haircut I have ever had! My color turned out amazing too. She has lots of before and after pics on her fb so you can see what kind of work she does.

oh wow that sounds awesome!

I just assume there are no good salons around here based on your reviews and head to Great Clips when they have the $8.99 coupons, lol. I just have them trim and add some long layers with some face framing layers.

AwesomeSauce --- 12 years ago -

^^^ that's the cut I always get. I didn't think it would be hard to screw up, buuuuut, lol. I haven't had a cut in a year haha, it's looking pretty shaggy now.

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

where i used to live i'd get free cuts at the most expensive places by either donating my hair or letting them try a new cut...
no luck here yet.
my hair used to be past my butt now it's above my shoulders

Salon Prodigy in Lakewood off of Bridgeport (right before the Lakewood Town Center) is awesome. Rebecca, the owner, is wonderful and actually listens to what I tell her I want. I have curly, mid-back length crazy hair that has layers in it, and she always does just right! For a trim (which is actually a trim, not taking 4 inches off...) and a shampoo, it usually runs me about $35.

I promise that they're wonderful over there. They're really fun, the shop is nice, and I've had zero problems with them ever, even after seeing them for about a year. Go check it out!

I love the school in Tacoma! I have only ever let my girlfriend cut or color my hair but when I needed something done and couldn't get home to see her I'd go to the school. Never had a problem. I went to salon prodigy once and it was an awful experience. The owner was a weirdo and the gal who did my hair was more into what was on tv then what I wanted my hair to look like.

AwesomeSauce --- 12 years ago -

It's funny how everyone has different requirements and experiences ;-)

A year ago I would've said to this lol! You don't know how many times I considered shaving my head while I lived here, and just wearing wigs. But now I'm going back to where people know how not to mutilate your head, so no more worries!

Chris P Bacon --- 12 years ago -

Okay, we're talking about cutting hair...
But good luck back home to you and yours!
