OK, so first off let me say I'm not exempt from ordering fast food every once in a while, and on the rare occasion I do order it, I never expect much. But ...

After pulling up to the Taco Bell today in Lacey and checking out the Kids Meal menu, I was disgusted! It was late, I didn't feel like cooking, and we were on our way home from Charlie's Safari, so I figured I'd give it a try.

They had 2 options: Bean Burrito or Cheese Roll-up (which is nothing more than cheese rolled in a tortilla!), accompanied by Cinnamon Twists. And of course a beverage.

I ended up not ordering my son anything (he's only 2 and a half), and instead decided to suck it up and cook up a quick plate of spaghetti when we got home.

Which chain(s) do you think has the best/worst options for kids?

Misty P. --- 13 years ago -

Taco Bell for sure sucks...they should at least give the chicken and cheese quesadilla as a choice...my kids like those

~Tanya~ --- 13 years ago -

Fast food? Not much of any of them, though they get it anyway. I like KFC, though. Popcorn chicken or strips or a leg. A cheese stick and a side. Pop, though. AND they don't get an annoying crappy toy that I find in the bottom of the toy box.

Arby's wasn't bad, either, and their "toys" are more educational in nature.

My fav place has always been Sonic they have alot of choices for kids, we do go to Taco Bell and my son usually just eats a soft taco he decided he dosnt like bean burritos which is not cool cuz I make them on a regular bases lol Im mexican I wrap up everything in a torty lol.

Sonic and Chick-fil-A have the best kids meals in my opinion...oh how I miss Chick-fil-A...and Waffle House...and Cracker Barrel...mmmm...I'm hungry...

Stel --- 13 years ago -

Mmmm, hillshaff. You're making me hungry and miss home! And to add to your list I miss Whataburger and CiCi's pizza!

Soft taco should be a choice....

SARAH A --- 13 years ago -

I always order him a big meal.. because the kids meal sucks at taco bell but he loves taco bell so i order him a big meal

Shutterbug --- 13 years ago -

Sonic and Chick-Fil-A are some of the best for fast food when it comes to kid's meals if you are going through the drive-thru. I admit that CiCi's is awesome, though so high in carbs. I ate there last night (been like 6 years since we got to eat at one), and it was pretty darn good. (if you hadn't noticed...my Underground is quiet...lol).

Taco time has good kid meals

Where the heck is Chic-fil-lay!?

*Lauren* --- 13 years ago -

There is a chick-fil-a up in Bellingham, WA. Its 3 hours from here...but its really pretty up there! lol So chick-fil-a and a really pretty area= worth it to me!! :)

WifeVet --- 13 years ago -

Where the heck is Chic-fil-lay!?

It's an east coast thing, at least as far as I know. I'm from PA, and miss it terribly!!

Lewismomma3 --- 13 years ago -

Yeah their kids meals suck and I have never bought one for the kids. I'll just get them a couple of tacos or the flatbread sandwich on the rare occasion that I get them something from Taco Bell(none of them are fans)

ShamWow --- 13 years ago -

They have a Sonic in Tacoma and Puyallup, never seen a Chick-fil-a here in WA, Texas has them everywhere. I miss Cracker Barrel the most!

I wish there was an In-N-Out Burger here, I don't know if you've ever had their food, but it's all fresh and cooked when you order it. They don't have kid friendly things advertised on the menu but you can customize your burger exactly how you want it- so for a kid a lot of times we'd order a "grilled cheese" which is just a bun and a slice of cheese. Or for kids who don't like veggies or certain condiments you can get them with just the meat and ketchup. I miss that place...as for what we've got here...I gotta say I think McDonald's has the best kids food since they've added all the new options to the menu. You can't go wrong with apples cut into fry style strips!

DirtyBetty --- 13 years ago -

I like Subway for kids meals. My daughter doesn't like lunch meat so I ask them to toast cheese on bread for her like a grilled cheese and they are always happy to do it. And she loves collecting the reusable bags their kids meals come in. I just wish Subway had a drive thru!

For those of you that love Chick Fil A ... try this recipe!!! I found it on Top Secret Recipes.com and LOVE IT!!!!

CHICK-FIL-A Chicken

3 cups Peanut oil
1 Egg
1 cup Milk
1 cup Flour
2-1/2 Teaspoons Powdered sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Pepper
2 Tablespoons Salt
2 Skinless, boneless chicken breasts, halved
4 Plain hamburger buns
2 Tablespoons Melted butter
8 Dill pickle slices

Mix together the egg and milk. Place the filets in this mixture, and let
sit for at least an hour.
While the breasts are sitting, mix together the Flour, Sugar, Pepper, and
Salt.
Once the sitting is done, dredge in the flour. (For ourselves and our
favourite customers, after the first dredging, we would put them back in the
milk bath for a few seconds, and re-dredge! This is not company policy,
however!)
Place the Peanut oil in a deep fat fryer, and bring up to a high heat.
Once up to 375 F., gently drop into the oil, and let cook until golden
brown. (This is for those of us who do not have a pressure cooker. If you
do, follow the note below!)

Note: Chick-Fil-A actually uses a Pressure Cooker to cook the Filets in. If
you have one, use the peanut oil according to the instructions for frying in
it. Desired heat is 400 F. Once steam starts shooting through, cook for
about 4 Minutes.
Lightly butter the buns, and grill until heated through. Place two
pickles on each bun, and place a hot breast on each!
Servings: 4

they stopped using peanut oil this year and the sandwiches definitly dont taste the same :( i use to be an assistant manager at one here in iowa. i will never eat there again knowing the condition the backs of those stores are kept.

I miss taco cabana

mommato3 --- 13 years ago -

@dirtybetty..I've seen on back home in cali..on the way to hunnington beach they have one..it was cool.

Stel --- 13 years ago -

Brittney- That's funny because I managed one in Texas for over a year and I still love their food and would eat it everyday if I could. Now, I haven't had it since they stopped making it in peanut oil, but I'm sure they did that because of all of the people allergic to peanuts. We had a cook who had a partial allergy to peanuts and would break out really bad when the oil got on him.

Mamaalvarex- Taco Cabana is the stuff right there. Love that place.

brittney --- 13 years ago -

lol yeah im not a fan just cause our owner made a girl with mono work for a week while she had and she was preparing the food and they made people work with stomach bugs no thanks lol.
