I'm going through a move, and it really makes you re-evaluate whether or not you truly need the things you have. There's a few big ticket items I'm planning on selling right away, which are then to be followed with some smaller stuff. Doing all of this has really got me wondering about selling stuff on the side as a potential way to make a little more income. Do any of you do this? Any advice on doing it?

Thanks!

I do eBay and consign at mcchord. The consigning is from stuff we no longer need and we never turn down free stuff. eBay is only brand name stuff that I sell.

What % do they take for consignment?

Sandra --- 10 years ago -

20% for 2 months, 10% if you volunteer, that's on McChord. Main post keeps 35%..

Do any of you have experience with Bookoo or Craigslist?

Sandra - Do you get a decent profit from Ebay?

Sandra --- 10 years ago -

I'm afraid of craigslist and meeting people online and I make anywhere from $50 to $350 weekly depending on demans

Oh and I don't do bookoo because the number of no shows is ridiculous

Good to know. I'm giving the Tacoma one a try for some of the stuff that I don't want to deal with shipping on.

I am giving Craigslist a chance for some of the larger items (like a piano) that I'm selling. However, with how people are trying to get the price lower on the piano to an amount I'm not willing to go to I'm really considering consignment. I know Prosser will be willing to work with me on it since the piano's in really good condition.

I am curious about E-Bay just because I have some smaller items that I wouldn't mind shipping that might do well on E-Bay. Plus, I'm thinking of selling lots of certain books to help clear them out.

My partner was suggesting amazon for the books and selling them individually, but I'm torn between getting stuff out of our place quickly vs. making more of a profit over time. Decisions!

Megan LeeAnne --- 10 years ago -

Just search for fort Lewis and pages start popping up. There's too many to list. I used to admin 2 of them.

Where is this consignment stuff sold?

Sandra --- 10 years ago -

McChord or Main post thrift shops are the only places I know of. Main post takes 35% of the sale price while we at McChord take 20%. I don't know where else they do it though.

If you sell stuff, respond to your buyers, not you in particular its just a real pain to see something you like and a week later its still available and they won't email or call you back. A pain in the butt.

seahawk --- 10 years ago -

I'm pretty good about responding. I was able to sell two of my larger items, and now I'm working on some of the smaller ones. I'm making progress, which I'm happy about.
