My husband is ETS-ing in February and we're clearing post housing in August. We're planning on staying out here, so we need to find a place to live ASAP. If you know anyone with a place to rent, please let me know!

We have two 60-lb pit bulls (friendly, happy, and mostly polite pits I might add) and would prefer a place with a fenced in yard. 2 bedrooms, 1 bath is all we need. Top end of our budget is right around $1k per month for rent. Looking to stay in the Tacoma, Spanaway, Lacey area closest to my job on JBLM.

Any advice or leads would be great! I've been browsing bookoo and a little on craiglist but most seem to be above our budget with way too many bedrooms/bathrooms or have dog breed/weight restictions.

When we were thinking about staying there, My husband and I would sometimes on weekends go driving around and find places for rent that weren't listed online or anything.

I just put in 2 bedrooms, $1000 max rent, and checked the "dog" box on Craigslist and over 1,000 listings come up. Most of them are apartments. I think it's going to be harder to find a house with a fenced in yard that's only two bedrooms, unless maybe it's a townhouse. There's one right at the top of the listings that's in Tacoma, under your budget, and fenced in for dogs. Driving around is a good idea too. That's how we found one of our houses in WA. The owner did not have it listed for rent anywhere, just a sign in the yard. Good luck!

Steilacoom has a lot of houses for rent in that range near the elementary school.

I recommend using AHRN while you still can as well. Or going straight to realtor pages. Also, using the advanced search function to limit the listing to exactly what you want.

Thanks everyone! The problem is not neccessarily the "dog" box on craigslist and other home rental sites, it's that we have two 60lb+ pit bulls. A lot of homeowners just don't want that breed in their homes. I went throught 5-6 pages of homes on Craigslist and only found three in acceptable condition that didn't specifically say "no pits or aggressive breeds" or "no dogs over 30lbs".

And thank you for the Steilacoom suggestion. Forgive my ignorance, but what is the name of the elementary school? I'm not super familiar with that area, just Pierce college and the Ft. Steilacoom park/dog park.

random fact. Apparently some "aggressive breeds" lists have Great Pyrenees listed as vicious... Anybody that knows a normal (not abused or mistreated or psychotic) GP knows you generally have to really mess with their family or them to get them to become vicious.

I'm the momma of an 80+lb German/Lab mix which I'm sure has some pit in him based on his facial structure. He's all love And kisses so I hope you find a home for you and your 'kids'!
