My husband has officially decided he is re enlisting and we want to pick somewhere new to live next summer, but for now it has to be in the states(Next time it is Germany). So what was your base and why?

I know I will be in the minority, but my favorite is where we are...Ft. Bragg. My husband went unaccompanied to Qatar for a year so he could leave JBLM and come back here. I love this place for so many reasons, but you probably don't want to pick here since hardly anyone else seems to like it lol.

I love Fort Bragg. We are retiring there.

#1Fort Lewis, Wa was great bc of the culture and all of the outdoor things to do. You literally had everything within an hours drive, mountains, beach, city, country, dessert, snow, etc. Yes it rained a lot but that is why the state was so green and beautiful. Go to the tanning bed twice a week for 10 min and there's the vitamin D you'll be missing during that season. Great shopping, great markets, amazing food selections, etc. I met some of the greatest and worst people there but our time was amazing. A much to offer state if you're willing to put on some rain boots, a parka, grab an umbrella, and go explore.

#2 Fort Campbell, Ky is where we are now and is where we have always wanted to end up. You have the country and the city all rolled into one place. Nashville is 40 min away which adds to the awesomeness..... so much to do there! The Campbell area has tons of food choices, shopping, great parks, camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, etc.. You like outdoors stuff then they probably have it. The only culture to really sink into here is the country way of life and Amish. Small towns surround the area and there are some amazingly sweet people. If they aren't sweet and polite with that Southern twang then they're probably not from here. Lol. We have all 4 seasons here so that's something to enjoy. Fall and Spring are by far the best.

I have a ton more to say about both but it'll fill up too much space :-) The only other place I have to comment on was Stewart. We made the best of our time there but the community surrounding it was small and there wasn't much to offer. Savannah and living an hour from warm sand and ocean water was amazing.... that's about all I miss.

Campbell and Lewis seem to be everyone's top picks of places to go. If you don't like one then you usually like the other.

I actually really loved JBLM. But I wasn't miserable at ft Polk (I had a greatttt group of friends, most of them local gals) and I'm very happy at ft campbell so far.

JBLM just really reminded me of home, minus the snow, and on the wrong coast lol, but the green and the misty rain all the time just made me feel at home :) I loved the area. We really only left because of the distance to family.

Ft Campbell- I love that less than two minutes down the road are actual farms, and in the opposite direction is sort of "city"-- it's the best of both worlds, in my mind. Plus so much closer to family. In laws are 2.5 hours away, so it's the perfect distance. We can visit for holidays and long weekends, but will not likely have unexpected drop-by visits ;)

But I've noticed that not everyone is able to see the bright side to their location. There is always something!!

Well it's good to know I'm not alone. :-) But I have met very few people in real life who like it here.

Fort Riley, Kansas. So much to do, people are great, schools are great. We loved our time there.

Are we done yet --- 11 years ago -

We are currently stationed at Katterbach in Germany. Its ok we like the travel hate the small base gossip drama and most of all hate the unit here. We pretty much talk to 1 other family here that we knew from a previous base and that's it.

Only other base we have been to is Ft Riley. We loved it there it was 7 hrs from home. Close enough to go visit family but far enough that we wont get bugged on a daily basis. It has everything my husband likes to do fishing, hunting and camping. My husband hates cities so fort Riley was perfect because he still has the bigger city shopping in Manhattan but Manhattan isn't really that big, ( we lived in junction city which is smaller than Manhattan.)

I've always heard good things about Ft Carson and Ft Campbell. My husband also is up for reenlistment soon and we hope to go back to ft Riley but if that's not open our next option would be Ft Carson last and final option we would hope for is Ft Lewis. But hopefully we dont have to go with our 3rd option lol. And hope 1 of the 3 options are open and we dont get stuck somewhere, where we dont want to be like we did when we came to germany.( 3rd option would be closer to my husbands mom in CA and now his aunt since she just got stationed in Fair Child We were not very far from his aunt coming to
Germany since they were stationed in England but they just left here)
