TIA ..Okay so my husband is gung-ho on doing a full dity.we are going from JBLM to Fort Hood around dec-jan which means passes will probably be all snowy.also we are a family of 6 with two dogs.so my first question is which do you think is better government move or full dity??? also if anyone reading this is or has been to hood,we are an E-6 family and want to know the best housing is?? please and thank you:)

I personally like a government move. They pack, they move, they deliver. If they damage it, they're liable for it. I know a lot of people anticipate making tons of money off a DITY move, but in reality I don't know anyone who has made more than a couple hundred dollars at most. I'm sure there are people who find a way to make more though. Could you compromise and do a partial DITY? My husband was gung ho on towing a trailer when we moved from WA to NC. But since he was overseas and I was moving myself, four kids, and a dog I set everything up and didn't do that lol.

I've never pcs'd so i don't have much info. Once we do I'd have a HUGE yard/garage sale, and then get a little pod and put all the keepsakes in it. we dont have really nice things because anticipating moving, plus having little kids kinda dictates that... but if we did have a lot of really nice things i would do a full govt move.

We are at Hood, came from JBLM last October. We live on West Hood and enjoy it. It's quiet, zero traffic, close to main post and Copparas Cove which has Walmart, HEB and several shops, restuarants. Housing does not go by rank. Any other questions feel free to ask.

Oh, and I will never do a full dity again. We did a partial. Just loaded the car and his truck with everything we would need. Much easier!

My brother in law did a dity and made $3,000 but that's not even worth it to me. I HATE the entire moving process. This was a few years ago so I'm not sure if they still compensate you as much as they used to. You can always get a POD or something and pack everything up and have them drive it.

We did a full army move on the way here, in December. The roads weren't actually that bad :) we went through Portland though and avoided most of the bad ones. We plan on doing a partial dity when we move to Campbell in December, I don't want to deal with the stress of a full.

A friend of mine always does a full DITY, but both she and her husband used to work for a moving company. They're pretty good at it ;-) they are a family of 6 with two dogs also, they just made it an adventure.
