Are you allowed to have a fire in a fire pit on post? Housing told me yes as long as its 10 ft from the house but I wanted to make sure I saw some lady post she lit one log during the mcchord black out and got the cops called on her? Thank you! In advance!

It can't be too big... If its a super tall fire with no cover you might get in trouble. It's supposed to be in a pit with a cover, from my understanding. We've never had a problem with using ours.

that is what housing told me (very recently). the cops can get called if you are doing nothing wrong. just be sure to not leave any embers unattended after the fire.

some neighbors abuse calling the cops out of spite and the cops still have to come just because it's a possibility that there might be something actually going on.

was this incident in the madigan neighborhood perchance?

it's a good idea to get the rules handy when you want to have a fire so that you can show the cops that you are not breaking any rules.

We want to have one tomorrow in clarkdale so I hope the cops don't get called! Thanks everyone

When I lived there I used mine all the time and never had any issues. I do agree, some abuse the MPs by calling them for NO reason, and when it happens, I think the person who called should get into some kind of trouble.

Towards the end of our time at JBLM we got a whole bunch of new neighbors and a whole bunch of drama came with them. The people almost directly behind me had a fire pit and the MPs were called there almost every weekend. I'm pretty sure it had more to do with the drunken brawls taking place around the fire pit than the actual fire pit itself though lol...

what constitutes a brawl?

A good old fashioned fist fight. They all took place while my husband was gone and I had insomnia so it was like my Friday night entertainment for awhile lol. I was actually quite disappointed when they installed a privacy fence. :-)

LOL! I just sprayed my OJ...

I had a fire pit, and the MPs got called once because someone who could see my back yard thought that fire pits were not allowed at all on post.

I actually used to use it to burn stuff like cardboard boxes and wrapping paper around christmas, so that I didn't over stuff my recycle bin.

thats what i do! i also keep toilet paper rolls and fill them with pinecones and lint.

I used all my phone books as fire starter...lol

I actually have a stack of phone books in my laundry room that I save to use as fire starter for both the fire pit and the grill. The cat has found a double use for the stack and has turned it into a scratching post as well. DOUBLE WIN!
