Our daughter collided with another girl at cheerleading practice on Tues. She has a pretty nasty knot and bruise in the middle of her forehead because of it. I've been icing it and limiting her activities since then just so that she doesn't accidentally hit it again. So this morning she woke up and the bruise has moved from mid forehead (between eyebrows) down the sides of her nose and underneath her eyes. It looks like someone that has gotten a broken nose. The only thing I can come up with is that I had a "the heck with it" moment and we ran around outside and played on the trampoline yesterday. Keep in mind that it was 90+ degrees so she did get pretty hot. So, I'm thinking between all the movement, heat, and healing of the area the blood moved down from the knot and into surrounding areas. My granny and parents seem to think the same thing. I'm hoping with all the kids we have someone else has experienced the same thing with their child. We're putting witch hazel on it to help with the healing and making sure to keep it iced here and there.

My son has had bruising spread on his face. He collided into my daughters doll house pretty hard and got a cut which became a huge lump and bruised. If she's in school I would tell the teachers...his school decided instead of ask us about it, they called cps on us which opened an investigation on my husband since he's military. Thankfully they closed case and found it not to be true but it does get to their chain of command. It stuck around for I want to say a week before it went away.

Yes, she is in Kinder. She already told her teacher what happened. I didn't and still don't feel the need to explain it any further since it was an accident. If they want to try and pull that nonsense on me then they will have a pretty tough fight ahead of them. I had several parents, including the coach, witness the incident and the bruising afterwards. The only thing now is how her eyes look. They don't go back to school until Tues so I'm thinking by then it will lighten up quite a bit. I'll just throw some concealer on it :-)

Lol, I would just leave it as is if they know what happened already. You should be fine. I think it was his sub teacher that called because he had already been to school with it for a few days and the day he had a sub is the exact day they were called. I would think they would be more worried about seeing it attempted to be covered up. She'll should be fine :)

Traumeel and Wobenzym

if she wants to wear concealer to feel better about herself then she should go for it. if she wants to look tough sporting battle wounds then she should do that.

the above products do support healing from bruising/inflammation. thanks to wobenzym i was off narcotics after 2 days after my c section, and off of tyleol after a week.

these products are good to just have around the house. anti-inflammatory products also work for pain relief. ibuprofen is also an anti-inflammatory product.

She's almost 6 and really could careless lol. I think it's more for me than anything. I don't like seeing my little girls face looking like someone beat her up. It looks a bit better this morning and thankfully it's storming so I have yet another reason to keep them inside :-)

I think I'm just going to stick with the witch hazel. It seems to be helping the healing process quite a bit but I appreciate the time you took to post 2 other helpful solutions. I definitely should look into those to have around just in case. Thanks Your Mom.

I personally have never used it because I don't have it but I know countless people that run to Arnica for everything from bruises to cuts, it's pretty common. Half of my family uses this before anything else. Look into it!

Your Mom --- 11 years ago -

YES that is what traumeel is.

I really could use arnica since I am always covered in bruises in the oddest places, I bruise easily, I just don't care! Each bruise has an interesting story behind it. Perhaps you can go early and talk to the teacher and have her explain to the kids what happened to your girl first thing in the morning. I personally did this when my son had surgery for strabismus and would show up to school with the whites if his eyes blood red. He was in first grade too and the teacher explained to the kids first thing in the morning about his surgery, they were curious for about 5 minutes, then nobody cared! I also did it when my daughter was in 2nd grade and had a Halloween party and I was bringing my youngest hooked to an oxygen tank, I explained to the kids what it was, a couple wanted to feel the oxygen coming from the tank so I let them feel it, then they went about their business. I think if you conceal it she may feel more self conscious, it's actually a pretty badass battle scar if you think about it!

And people say cheerleading isn't a sport. Haha. I probably won't conceal it because it's starting to look better. She has until Tuesday before school starts back. This happened this past Tuesday so her teacher and classmates have already seen the head bruise and knot and she told them what happened. It was the under eye area I was most concerned about. It's grayish looking this afternoon so I'm thinking and hoping by Tuesday morning it will be barely noticeable.

My parents spoke with a family friend, who also happens to be an ER Dr., at church this morning. He said not to be surprised if the bruising moved down to her lower face as it heals. He said it is the blood in the area moving as it heals and gravity takes affect.

Definitely not something I wish for her to have again. Too bad helmets are not required for cheering lol.
