We have been here at lewis for 6 years and are finally gettin PCS'd to San Antonio. My kids will both be attending school here until September 16th. My question is: with them missing so much school in between here and there, is there some sort of program we can use to make up the work? It's kindergarten and 2nd grade so I'm not super worried... But I don't want them left behind or something bad because they have a gap of time not being in school.

Do you know where they will be attending school? I wouldn't worry about them missing the work, I moved in the middle of the year in 5th grade and teachers try to help the student catch up. I would just try to see if there is anyway to register them before you get there so they can get started as quickly as possibly.

If it is only K and 2nd grade , they won't miss much and I doubt they will have anything for them to "catch up" other than sending the work home if you request it. We have done this several times in the past and they offered no "make up" work stating they would not count it against them. i knew it wouldn't be counted against them, but I too worried they missed too much. They ended up being just fine , as if they had started on time with the other kids in their classes.

Some school offer online sites where the parent can actually view the kids school work and assignments so they can stay on time/task and have support at home. If you know what school system they will be transferring to, try to check into that to see if they offer something the same/similar. Most schools only offer grading sites, as well as workshops. The workshops can be very helpful, but the kids must be registered in the school system before they have access to it.

We PCS'd from WA to NC last April. In total my kids missed about 3 weeks (K and 4th grade) and it wasn't a big deal. Their teachers in WA let them take certain books and gave them packets of work to do. I wasn't super strict about forcing them to do any of it since we took our time driving cross country and did a lot of fun stuff along the way, but they worked on school stuff lot in the car. They were fine when they started back to school again.

What some teachers have done in the past for my kids was give me some worksheets for them to do just to keep them up to speed (and from getting bored while on the road). Usually at night when we stopped, I would let them work on them for a bit and they seemed to like it. But like others said, they probably won't miss too much, but I bet if you ask, the teachers would be happy to give them some "busy work"

Get the future worksheets from their teachers (let them know ahead of time) or go buy workbooks from any store for their grade and work with them.
