POLL: How long till you ask for your (nice) dishes back?

So lets say that you brought a dish to someone's house and didn't use tupperware, and you really liked the dish and used it on a regular basis. How long do you wait till you ask for the dish back?

I don't know dish etiquette between military wives.

cocowgirl777 --- 12 years ago -

if its full of food i might leave it for a few days or if i know the person well and will be seeing them soon i leave it. otherwise its in my hands while leaving.

AwesomeSauce --- 12 years ago -

I haven't had to ask for it back. The people I've left them with usually try to get it back to me ASAP, I usually try to get thing back to people within a week if they didn't take it with them.

details --- 12 years ago -

I don't usually take nice dishes anywhere but if I do, I put my name on a piece of masking tape on the bottom. Before I leave I usually take it with me. But in case I forget I know I can call and say mine is the one with my name on the bottom, and I"ll be over to pick it up in an hour. :-)

Sandra --- 12 years ago -

I always forget therefore only get it back if they remind me or bring it to me. One time I was wondering what had happened to a nice glass dish and I got it back about 6 months from a party I had left it at, I had no clue. They're just dishes usually I don't get attached.

Samba --- 12 years ago -

I usually don't take a nice dish of any type unless we are going to a dinner at someone important's home(was that grammatically correct? idk.) I have left a nice dish once, many years ago. I paid good money for it, so I did want it back. I asked a few times in a polite way and the person basically made me feel like crap and was very snippy at me basically saying I was accusing her of wanting to steal my dish! lol So..she said she would return it asap. Never got it back! lol Learned my lesson. Stoneware(good quality) is very expensive, and I love love my stoneware. I keep buying pieces so I basically have just about every size dish now. Very handy to have for get togethers and celebrations.

Kristie528 --- 12 years ago -

I always use the disposable pans. I have had far to many dishes not get returned. I am OCD when it comes to returning stuff but everyone isn't like that and it drives me nuts!!!

ella ella --- 12 years ago -

I always bring something I dont care for, or I got to the dollar store and buy a dish for a 1.00 and call it good. Otherwise if I cant get it out the door they can have it =D

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

I usually try to bring stuff I don't mind not getting back, but i recently baked some monkey bread in a bundt pan and to transport it without it falling apart i brought the pan and i think they might have forgotten...
should i keep waiting or just ask for it back?

CSGray --- 12 years ago -

simple.. I DON'T LOAN OUT MY NICE DISHES! lol.
If someone b*tches that I showed up with cheap tupperware... well then...I won't be going back there anymore!

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

it's not like that... it was all my idea to leave it there...

i always get peoples dishes back as soon as humanly possible so i don't put others in the awkward place of asking for them back.

Shelley S --- 12 years ago -

I would tell them that I was needing it back because I am making something that uses that pan.

myopinion --- 12 years ago -

Im not sure why people would not automatically return what is not theirs to keep?

Chris P Bacon --- 12 years ago -

I say, we should just get ghetto on her!

Sandra --- 12 years ago -

I always forget therefore only get it back if they remind me or bring it to me.

Case in point, today we had my son's bowling league St. Patty's party and I completely forgot my plate. BOO

ella ella --- 12 years ago -

probably just forgot or havent thought about it =)

ask nicely be like hey did I leave my whatever there I totally wanted to bake this and cant find it ! =D

lemondrop --- 12 years ago -

I would just call or text and say, hey I'm in the area, can I grab my plate? I'd hate to forget it about it later.

Just go get it!
and next time...bring some empty containers in your bag that you don't mind leaving behind. put those old sour cream containers to use! :)

MASC --- 12 years ago -

I'm more concerned about the nice Tupperware I sent home with family members a year an a half ago. Never gonna see it again. Time to buy a new set. Gonna just start saving lunch meat and butter tubs for things that wont work in ziplocks. That cheap junk can go home with guests.

We always got our plates back when we sent them somewhere. I started giving things on paper plates though because I felt bad leaving someone with a dish to wash and return. Not much of a gift if you leave them with a chore.

peanutbutterjellytime --- 12 years ago -

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking for your dish back. They may have forgotten or they might be waiting for you to come get it because they are lazy haha! The only time I leave things is when there is food left in it and I know the person. Its your dish get it! ;)

MASC- I started doing the same thing. We have my husbands guys here all the time for meals and I never get my stuff back from them so I started keeping all of my sour cream containers etc. Thats what I send them home with. That or a paper plate. That way they can just toss it and I don't have to get all stalker like to get my crap back!

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

HotFlashinMandi --- 12 years ago -

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -
