so i've had a lot of really bad shakes and weakness and lack of energy, and on the days that i forget to take my vitamins i have tons of energy and feel great.

i take
sundown folic acid 1600 mcg and 2 oligo womans vitality tablets daily

and occasionally i will take super b complex by nature made, vitamin d3 by nature made, mk-7 by jarrow, and melaleuca unforgettables brain supplement (e, phosphatidylserine, fish oil, ginko and blueberry)

i try to get gentle stuff, but i'm at a loss why taking vitamins make me feel so terrible.

i'm thinking of doing an experiment and taking all my supplements and vitamins before bed.. any thoughts?

I have been taking a prenatal vitamin for over a year now due to anemia. I always take it at night time and no problems. You could try it!

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

do most people take pills before bed?

Megan LeeAnne --- 12 years ago -

Are you reading the bottles and taking them how they are recommended? Some require food, tell you to avoid certain foods/liquids and such. My doctor had always told me if they make me nauseas or anything to take before bed but mine don't so it's worth a shot.

Tange --- 12 years ago -

I think most people do and most of my doctors recommend it (taking pills before bed). Also taking different vitamins together causes bad side effects at times. There should be a certain amount of hours apart that you take each one but you should never be taking them all at once.

LadyJane --- 12 years ago -

I just take the prenatal before bed because it upsets my stomach if I don't. I usually take it with milk. I agree with what the others said though.....you prob shouldn't be taking them all at once.

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

maybe i'll do the b vitamins throughout the morning and the others closer to the end of the day... spaced out.

Sandra --- 12 years ago -

have you tried and asked doctor about interactions? maybe some of them shouldn't be mixed

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

i wish i had a doctor with a brain. my current one is so busy she doesn't even have time to care. i asked for an allergist appointment and she sent me to a weight loss class (i found out after i called tricare appt center) and i asked for an osteopath because i have back and rib issues and she sent the referral for an orthopedist. i asked for a blood test to check my iron, etc, and she ordered SIX VIALS of blood and once i asked how my iron was she said there were no results of my iron.

that's why i want to get out of madigan.
bleh

all the vitamins i listed are relatively common/"gentle" but i feel better with nothing. i have to take the tons of folic acid though just in case i get preggers again i don't want to have another baby with spina bifida :(

Are you reading the bottles and taking them how they are recommended?
yeah, i always take them with food, but most vitamins dont give times of day to take them you know?

My doc put me on prenatal vitamins years ago, and my last child was born 22 years ago lol, but it's a great multi vit and I love what it does for my hair and nails as well.

I would only suggest to make an appointment with your PCM talk to them about what you take and ask for a blood test. My two cents is that if a vitamin gives me the shakes I am not taking it, what if you have to drive or take someone to the ER? Someone told me once that all vitamins give you is expensive pee.

Someone told me once that all vitamins give you is expensive pee.

Lol I like that

OnARoll --- 12 years ago -

the only one i really have to take is the folic acid...

I would only suggest to make an appointment with your PCM talk to them about what you take and ask for a blood test.

i did that. my pcm is not the brightest. i highlighted my experience above. :/

Bringing up an old post here...

I have felt extremely exhausted the past few days and realized tonight it could be that I have started taking vitamins again and have been taking Airborne on top of that.

It is imperative that I not get sick, but if this is why I am so run down I can't keep taking them.

Someone (I want to say maybe Huffpost?) did an article recently about how vitamins are basically a waste of money. I don't remember the specifics but basically the point of the article was that you can get a lot more bang for your buck by eating certain foods in your diet.

The only vitamins I never noticed a difference with were prenatals I got as a sample from my OB. They were coated with a vanilla flavoring and not only tasted yummy, but they made me feel great! Unfortunately Tricare did not cover them and a one month supply was $80 lol.

BDom --- 11 years ago -

I started taking a womens multi vitamin and was told not to take it because there is too much vit a(?) and not enough other things. I started prenatals because it has enough of everything and the added folic acid.

I like the prenatal gummies, but use the ones given to me by the dr.

I heard about that news article. I do believe that certain things are better than others. My sister in law just found out she can't metabolize b the right way and has to take b12 shots now instead

MASC --- 11 years ago -

I haven't taken any vitamins since I posted a few days ago. Back to my normal "just tired" every day. Though I was pretty exhausted and had to take a nap this afternoon from overdoing it yesterday. :/

Once in a while I take one of my daughter's gummy vitamins and it doesn't seem to do this to me.

Your Mom --- 11 years ago -

i wonder if it's one particular vitamin more than others, and if there is a safer form of it. like beta carotine instead of vitamin A... that sort of thing.

MASC --- 11 years ago -

Not sure. I asked last time I went to the doctor about my being tired all the time. She offered no help or testing suggestions. She did offer several times to write a sleeping pill prescription.
I know I have mentioned this before, but it still pisses me off.

ive felt really terrible lately and have absolutely no motivation to go to the doc because shes useless. i feel you.
