Why everybody freaks out every time they ask when was your last period and I say May 2012 and they go like ARE YOU NUTS! and they go running doing unnecessary pregnancy test. I don't need my period and if you want an extra one well take it and leave me alone lol I've been dealing with this for years on an end so I know I'm not pregnant and telling them I got a tubal ligation don't help they still go ahead and assume for all the almighty IDK what that I am.

There is an older thread here somewhere about this. A bunch of people weighed in. Look in the history ....

I just got hassled again this weekend for the exact same thing! Went to the ER, had 3 or 4 nurses/PAs question it and had to do a pregnancy test (yet another reminder that I am not pregnant :/ ) Then I had to do a follow up today and because it wasn't my normal doctor, I got talked to twice this morning!

My husband may be in Korea at the moment so we can't even try, but I am listening to my doctors advice and doing what I think is best for my body at the moment.

I get your frustrations 100%!

I don't have PCOS but I'm not normal, I flow about every 4 mos. When we were in AK my provider was worried and did a biopsy on me, so I feel you on that one.

I had a friend who worked in the clinics and she had a ton of crazy stories. A common one was women who got sent home from deployment after they found out they were pregnant at a routine test because they thought they were sick with something else. They would come back, get an ultrasound and find out they were almost half way through a pregnancy. She said they had this happen once every couple of months. It's quite common at our last base. Quite different circumstances I know, you aren't deployed or anything. The clinics get a lot of crap for either doing too little or doing to much. It never seems to balance out does it? PCOS stinks. I've seen several friends go through it, it's no joke when they have a cyst flare up.

Yes I have pcos

Your Mom --- 11 years ago -

i am starting to think i might have this. i know i'm young, but i have adult acne, a history of cysts on my uterus and ovaries, oily skin, mild tuberous breasts, and i don't menstruate. also my mom has had the same symptoms. we also have a fam history of diabetes. i don't know much about the disease, but if i were to be diagnosed with it, do you know how long it takes? the reason i ask is because we're going to be moving this year and whats the point in dealing with madigan (whom i detest) if i'll go off post when we move...?

i guess my question is those who have been diagnosed, what was that like for you?

Sandra --- 11 years ago -

I don't know anything about PCOS, but your mom, I had worse acne than you(I haven't noticed much of it!) at your age, plus the period thing could be because of nursing? I didn't get mine back until I stopped nursing. Another thing I just read is that weight gain is another symptom, and you and your mom are pretty skinny. Just a couple of thoughts, I hope it's nothing bad though.

Your Mom --- 11 years ago -

Those are good thoughts! For sure! weight gain is related to the insulin and diabetes part though... and we have a whole ton of diabetes in our family.

I had an ultrasound when I had an IUD and I had countless cysts that they saw. I had cysts with pregnancies, along with a bright spot on my ovary. When I was a teenager I had very irregular periods... I didn't start till I was 14.

My boobs are definitely tuberous.... My mom's are too. She also started getting some hair recession and male hormones started spiking with her later in life....

I'm not self diagnosing myself or anything, and I don't think I have any severe disability or a harsh case of this if I did have it.... but I've had health concerns for quite a while and I'm trying to figure out what pieces of my puzzle fit.

I did ovulate and menstruate (though irregularly) up until my last pregnancy even though I was nursing.

All I'm hoping for if I did get a diagnosis is to not get prescribed anything that would cause it to get worse.

My PCM thought I might have it.... just did some blood work about two weeks ago. Got a call yesterday saying there was no sign. So it was pretty quick :)

Frankie --- 11 years ago -

I haven't had one since 2009 so don't feel bad lol.

Your Mom --- 11 years ago -

i enjoy not bleeding into my undies believe me... but i like to find answers. and where better to find them than the internet?

Rotterdam[edit]
In 2003 a consensus workshop sponsored by ESHRE/ASRM in Rotterdam indicated PCOS to be present if any 2 out of 3 criteria are met[20]
oligoovulation and/or anovulation
excess androgen activity
polycystic ovaries (by gynecologic ultrasound)
