Met one woman today, got some good plastic tubs from her, no problem..

Another agreed to meet me at target at 4; I went early, picked up a couple things I needed, she called at 3:50 to tell me she was still in Olympia and "didn't think she could make it by 4"

REALLY?? You don't 'think' by 4'?
She could've had to decency to call me at a couple after 3, because she would've known by then and I wouldn't have even been there yet.

I hate flakes and rude people.

Is this the normal LYS experience??

CSGray --- 13 years ago -

I never agree to meet people somewhere. Either they come to my house, or I go to their house. The ONLY times I have agreed to meet people is when I was going to be someplace anyways.

If I meet someone, its right outside madigan gate (i live in new hillside)....no where else...

I live pretty close to it, so it's not a long trip and it was shorter than driving to her house, so I agreed, +I prefer meeting in public anyway

Just figured she would be decent enough to give better notice if she was gonna flake

I honestly hate the site anymore....it's full of either no shows or people who email saying they want your items then never get back to you about meeting. I just let my account expire. Used to have everything posted on flfm, let my month go past and said screw reposting, I threw everything in the storage hahahaha.

There are a lot of no shows from LYS. I had a yard sale with the items we had posted due to all the no shows!

amayblueyes7 --- 13 years ago -

Yup, that's pretty much how it is now. I used to post all the time and got sick of it, so then I stopped. Then about a month ago I had to get rid of stuff before we moved so I thought I'd give it another try. So many people apparently can't read, when I specifically post "no emails, do not check them", then harassed me when I got on to say they emailed. Then there's the ones who say they're interested, and never get back to you to schedule pick up. And finally, I had 4 no shows, for the same items, on the same day. Took a list of people who wanted it if the item didn't sell, and all 4 never showed. I even waited at the visitors center for 15min, called and texted, for one who didn't show or answer. Finally I sold it to a neighbor and everything else that wasn't sold I donated to the thrift store. At least people show up there, and if they don't buy it, it's not my problem anymore. LoL. Needless to say I'm done now, it's ridiculous.

I personally wont respond to the ones that say no emails no matter how bad I want the item, I used to. But for the fact I have ended up with a pyscho stalker from that site non stop texting me I will no longer let anyone have my number unless I already have dealt with them before.

amayblueyes7 --- 13 years ago -

Oh geez Megan! That's insane. I just don't understand people. I mean I totally understand where you're coming from, but I've had so many people email on and on and on, with no results it's just easier and quicker to have them text me wherever I'm at. Oh well, don't have to worry about it anymore, you couldn't pay me enough to sell on that site again.

Shelley S --- 13 years ago -

I have only done our site here at Sill once and it was to answer an ad for needing moving boxes. I had just finished unpacking from PCS move, hadn't called the company yet to come get them and she showed up right away and was so grateful to get them. I dont like giving my number out either and I can get my email on my phone, so it's easier for me to get emailed about something.

wildflower2007 --- 13 years ago -

holy cow, i know right.

i hate when people try to be "salesmen" too...found an item I liked, but it was dated and not in great condition so i'd have to put some work into it. i emailed the seller asking if the price was firm and offering what i thought was a fair price for an outdated, not in such great shape piece of furniture. he sends me back "i just made it better, better hurry up and buy it for what its listed at before i raise the price"...

really?

that tactic did NOT make me want to rush over there and overpay for a piece of crap, so I messaged back with, "good luck on that." hoping to make it clear that his "salesmanship" lost the sale.

THEN, he emails back with something to the effect of calling me a cheap skate.

Again, not a way to get someone to purchase your item.

I'm also tired of thrift stores posting their ENTIRE INVENTORY on the site. It's like they are preying on military. I get that you need business, but post an ad once, offer a military discount or flexible pricing, whatever. Don't clog up the site with your store's inventory, piece by piece. End of my rant, sorry.
