Anyone has done this before? How long you have to wait once you decide to take the vehicle out of storage?

BelleAdoresMommaFriend --- 13 years ago -

My car is in storage and I use USAA. I believe the rule is that you should change back to regular insurance with them BEFORE you drive the vehicle at all. They will not cover any damages that could occur if not.

Megan LeeAnne --- 13 years ago -

That is correct. Call or change it online as soon as you know a dare and let them know you'll need regular insurance again starting that certain day or even a week before just in case you can get it out earlier.

We've done it several times through USAA. You definitely want to call them BEFORE driving the vehicle or moving it at all.

I did it online but wasn't sure it got out because it wouldn't tell me and I call but since is the weekend there was no insurance agents available :/ I took my truck out of storage and put my husband's car on storage. I like his car and gas milage but I need my space.

Definitely don't drive much or even at all if possible til Monday then when you can make sure. You don't want to take the chances of getting into a wreck or pulled over and not having insurance.

hey i am curious how much insurance is for this. we are going to get me a beater car for winter out here. and we were wondering while it was in storage that it would be? just a ballpark?

BelleAdoresMommaFriend --- 13 years ago -

I don't think it cost much at all for the storage insurance on it. My husband has a new really nice truck in storage and we are only paying 200 for the entire year. But they will break it down into monthly if it is not for that long.

I am not sure on all the details, but we currently have my husband's car in storage in our own garage with USAA while he's deployed. Because it's considered "in storage" we were able to take it off our insurance policy for the time being, and just have my car - which I drive every day - covered with liability, etc. Our monthly insurance bill actually went down about $100 because his car's in storage. I just can't drive it anywhere until it's back on "active" insurance.

I'd just call USAA, tell them what you want to do, and ask them about all the details. They're usually really awesome about answering all of your questions!

My insurance actually went down $500 with my truck in storage and since I decided to switch it goes down $600 w his car in storage because his insurance is pricey-er that mine. If it was just me I'll only have to pay $90 per month but w him I pay almost $240 his fault for having speeding tickets and a at fault wreck

we pay $180 a month and that includes our renter's insurace, but i guess we are just gonna try studded tires on my car this year and see how it goes haha!

yall see snow in wv and then i never get on here again, blame the husband :P
