Hi! I'm April. I will be moving to Lewis in a couple of months. We are on the wait list for an E-5 4BR in Carter Lake. Can anyone who lives in that neighborhood tell me a little about it. Which floor plan is in Carter Lake? I'm so anxious about moving and getting settled in again with 4 kids (ages 17, 13, 10, and 7), and I'd like as much information as possible. Thanks!
It is on McChord. We requested McChord and the wait list says CL so I am just figuring that it is Carter Lake. I'm hoping someone can give me some solid info on which floor plans are possibilities in that neighborhood, are there fenced yards, etc.
If those are the ones I lived in. I believe they are. They are one story, small. Bathrooms are tiny. Master has one sink and no tub, just a shower. Rooms are average size. They do have privacy fence and large yards.
@Megan I have looked on there at all of the McChord floor plans, but they don't specify which ones are Carter Lake. If all of the Carter Lake homes are 1 story, though, I can figure it out pretty easily I think. Thanks!
Carter Lake homes are pretty much all the same floor plan for the 4 bdrms. I believe it's called blackbird. SMALL, roughly 1100 sq ft. They are remodeling a lot of them so the master does now have a full tub but storage in the house is non-existent. It's not so bad when your kids are smaller but for kids your ages you might have problems. The kitchen is ridonkulous!!! No pantry. Almost no cabinet space either. Laundry room is in your kitchen. If you don't spend a lot of time in your home I guess it's ok. I do like that McChord is quiet, spread out, all fenced-in yards. You are not right next to the flight line, it is clear on the other side of the base.
I didn't like the carter lake or heartwood homes at mcchord. Our name popped up on the waitlist so we checked it out and decided to stay where we were. Ours was a 3 bedroom so maybe the 4 bedroom is better. I just couldn't do it, it was so dang tiny. I might as well not have a kitchen. I think there might be bigger housing for e-5 on mcchord, In a different neighborhood but don't quote me because I'm not 100% sure.
Ha ha ha I'm sorry to laugh but you must understand Leesah, see what the geniuses did was take the 3 bdrm and add a 4th rm. Didn't add ANY square footage just jammed an extra wall in there. Supposedly E5 qualifies for Olympic Grove on McChord which is 2 story. From the outside they look like they should be bigger but from the floor plans online they list less sq footage, doesn't make sense unless it's wrong.
We had a 4 bedroom on Carter lake it was super tiny and we were a family of 8. We had to get rid of so much stuff. It was a joke living in that house. We paid for a 4 bedroom to move to Olympic Grove the houses are not much bigger but the layout is awesome. WE have an upstairs/downstairs. We have a laundry room and a garage. So We took that house for 6 months and move as fast as we could. Good luck but they are super tiny yes the yards are awesome . I had a house of all things was behind a carport which I hated. I would take Olympic Grove if possible but these houses are hard to get it took us about 7/8mths.
Are the single story 4 bedroom for E-5 in Davis Hill any bigger? We absolutely cannot afford to live off post. If we have no other option, we will take what is open and pay the fee to move when something else opens up. Right now, it looks like it will be Carter Lake or Davis Hill. If they are both tiny, we will go for the one with the better yard/setting.
Have you looked around off post? I know you said you can't afford it. But we actually just moved off post. There were SEVERAL 4 bedroom homes under the E5 bah. That was including after averaging in what the cost would be for electricity etc.
I've been looking online, but we have 3 dogs and almost everywhere we have found that is big enough won't accept our dogs or want an ungodly pet deposit. And our budget is super tight right now so the gas cost may make all the difference. We lived in an under 900 sq ft 3 br apt in Korea for a year...I'm sure we can stand a year or less in 1100 sq ft while we wait for a better housing assignment.
Actually only some of Davis hill has garages. I have 2 friends that live there and neither have garages. They have carports. Beachwood is about the same as well. Carter lake is a little bigger than either. I've been in all 3.
Discovery Village has a 12-18 month wait list time. I'm actually sick with anxiety over how much the hotel is going to cost. I thought on post lodging was supposed to be a certain set rate (it has been the other times we've PCS'd, but Ranier seems expensive. They said they start at $68 and add $5 for each family member PLUS the pet charge at $10 each(the website says they start at $35, so I don't know). I've looked online at off post places, but no where will let me book one room with 4 kids (was looking for a suite)...argh! So, I'm taking whatever opens first, regardless of size or layout or whatever. I appreciate all of your input.
