How old is too old for a crib?
I am thinking about getting my almost two year old a race car bed but I have no idea if it is too soon or if I should have done it al'ready.I am also having another baby so the crib could be greatly used but I am afraid my almost two year old might wake up before me or roll off the new bed.....What do you think?

Sry for the typos

I put my son in a twin size bed at 2 with one of those gaurd rails. He did just fine. :)

We converted our sons when he was 15 months, around there anyway, and then he got to be too big for it. So he is now in a full size bed. I personally think toddler beds are such a waste of money. They just grow too fast to keep up, hence the reason we went straight to a full size. My son will be 2 in mid November and he does great with the big bed. We got the side rail for one side and have the bed pushed up against the wall. He has a head board and a foot board so there isn't any falling off the foot.

How much do the guard rails cost?

Yogis Mommy --- 13 years ago -

I think we paid $20 for ours.....

The mommy --- 13 years ago -

Thats not to bad.
I think I am going to check bookoo for a full set"bed, frame, guard rail"
Hopefully I can find one that doesn't cost a arm and a leg.

I start at two =) both of my kids started climbing out at age two so I switched them, my doc said as long as theyll stay in it. But once they start climbing then pull them out.

I know some kids who stay in till their 3 even. And go to their parents for getting rest lol.

others I know start before 1 ! that scares me !

I had my daughter in a twin bed at age 15 months with a rail of course. She never fell out and it helped her sleep through the night alot better.

we took her out at 1 then got the small toddler bed that has two small rails on each side.. then at 2 we put in a twin sized bed with guard rails... just a week ago we took off the guard rails and she is doing just fine!!! shes in a actual big girl bed :)

if i talk to my husband and hes will let go of her toddler bed and its something you want i could see it to you :) its low to the ground and cherry wood

it fits a crib mattress

also idk if some moms are against this but when we first converted her crib into a toddler bed we closed her door put all the toys in the closet and when we went to sleep we would put a gate at her door and open it.. the first two nights we could hear her getting up out of bed and going to the gate. she would talk for a min ask for me or daddy then when we didnt answer her she would go back to sleep... after about a month of that she stayed in her bed :) now in the morning when she wakes up we gate off the stairs and she comes into our room :)

Our son was in a twin bed with rails at age 2 and still has the same bed a couple years later. He went straight from a crib to that with no issues. His sleep pattern has been disrupted since my husband deployed and will be again when he comes home..but that just comes with the territory. :-(

I would just go with a twin and skip the todder bed...I kind of felt like they were a waste since the kids outgrow them so fast.

Kathryn --- 13 years ago -

We went from a crib to twin at just over two. I would have kept her in a crib longer because she didn't climb out, but we were moving and tossing the crib! My daughter just now at four years old is startng to get out of bed on her own, I trained her right :)

We start at 18 months, but I think the guideline is if they can climb out or are potty training, it's time to change to the big kid bed.

my son was in one at 13 months...he was walking at 9 mo..and i woke up the morning before i converted his bed..and he was Standing on the changing table (it was attached) so we desided right then and there it was time to switch him over before he hurt himself..he never had a problem with it..i know they say the earliest you should switch it is when they can fully walk....i know ive also heard its good to do it early since it will be easier to transition (just like switching from the cuppy to the bottle) if you do it early on they dont have the time to become accostumed to it as much as say if you wait until they are 3 years old ....

i feel like too old is when they can try to climb out and are almost successful......
but my son is a spoiled child he was in the toddler bed & didnt like and used it for maybe one week. he started sleeping in a queen around the age 18 months

IMMoving --- 13 years ago -

I would say around 2 years old is acceptable! And please toddler beds people, no top bunks on a bunk bed. YES, I actually know someone who actually did this. :\ Not the brightest bulb in the bunch....lol
