So now (well soon) we're going to pay for trash on post if you go over your average consumption allowance? Hmmm. I didn't even know we had an average consumption allowance, other then the size of the garbage cans. Thoughts?
They probably mean if you have more bags than can fit in the trash can with lid closed. At least that's how it is in Lacey, we get charged for every extra bag, lol.
We have two cans at our house, but only use one, and the recycling bin. So if the average is two cans plus recycling, I'm ok with that. I'd like to know how they plan on tracking that though. Weigh each garbage can?? Or average per neighborhood. I hate neighborhood averaging, some people always skew the readings.
That is how it is in a lot of places off post. Extra bags outside of the can means extra charges on your monthly bill. I'm guessing that is what they mean by going over average consumption. The average household doesn't fill 2 giant trash cans plus have extra bags for pickup in a single week.
Here having 2 cans instead of 1 also costs extra so and we learned to adapt to having 1 since living off post.

I remember when we lived in Lacey we got charged extra if the lid of the can didn't close, lol! But I thought I remembered something about the weight too?
The notice also says the changes will include an exchange of our current trash cans. So I doubt we will all have two cans plus recycling anymore.
When I lived in Puyallup about 4 years ago you were charged extra if your lid didn't close or you had trash outside your can. It's the same way here in Lawton OK from what I have been told, but thankfully they pick up 2 times a week.
if you have an extra can you never use, they will haul it away for you. make sure you call the trash place directly though. housing told me they would handle it and never got back to me telling me they couldnt.
That's ridiculous. I could see if they had to get out of the truck and do it, but if the lid doesn't close? Really? How petty. Housing is so effn ridiculous anyways. For the price we pay each month to live here, they should all provide us with ACs and stop worrying about the d*mn trash! (maybe IDC cuz we only have 1 bag of trash a week, lol.)
All the little stupid things is why we chose NOT to live on post here at Sill. Not only is the house not worth our BAH but I have way less stupid rules with my landlady and the city :)
The letter said we will be getting new cans and if we want more than one now we will have to pay for it! We have two trash cans now and our family uses them too!
We had to get it at least Fri or Sat because we were out of town. They wont even pick up bulk trash with out an email. I wounder if I need to schedule that before the 10th.
The trash cans will be smaller. I was just on the phone with housing because mine were stolen and she said maybe they were just taken and replaced with the "newer smaller ones". Um, no. They were stolen.
Maybe smaller cans will help everyone to take advantage of the recycling program and be a little less wasteful. We are a family of 4 and our cans are hardly ever full. We recycle as much as possible. The money raised from the program helps a lot with the communities. Some of the water parks they installed a couple of years back at one post was because of the recycling programs.
I'm out of state on vacation right now and didn't know about this. So could someone please inform me whats fully going on or a website I can look at that will give me all the information in the letter? Also, what is the facebook page? Thanks everyone. :)
Basically if you live in a 2 or 3 bedroom house you'll now have a 65 gallon can and a recycle can. If you live in a 4 or 5 bedroom house you'll have a 95 gallon can and a recycle can. If you want another garbage can, or if you need to put out more garbage, you'll have to pay for it yourself.
They haven't given any real details on how/when we're getting new cans or turning in old ones. And no details have been given yet on how the bulk trash pick-up is changing.
Their FB page is Lewis McChord Communities. They posted the letter sometime last week.
where im from all the cans are the same size, they just have an insert they put in them depending on what you pay for. wonder why they dont do that instead of getting new cans.
haha... new cans....
i dont think we ever got the letter in the mail, unless my husband threw it away before i saw it.
They should go by family size, not number of rooms, that's just silly, I know lots of families of 5, that had 4 beds and lots that had 3, I know LOTS of married w/no kids who get 3 beds or had only 1 and got a 3 bed....it's makes no sense that way...
We just had 3 new neighbors move in to our building in the last month or so. All 3 were given 1 trash can and 1 recycle bin, instead of the 2 trash cans the rest of us have. I think that is going to be part of the change.
