Hello everyone!
So I have a couple of questions... But before I ask them let me share this first.. We were at Fort Campbell for a long time. When we received orders for New York we did a full DITY move ourselves. Now we've got orders for Lewis and we definitely don't want to do a DITY again. We have two cars, and I'm hearing the Army doesn't ship POV's along with Household Goods anymore.. Is that true?! What's the process for moving when you want the Army to move you? Has anyone on here moved from the New York/NE area? Is there anyway to sign my daughter up for pre-school (at Strong Beginnings on post) before we go so she has a guaranteed spot? I called CYS and they gave me the run around saying, "Just wait til you get here.." And after that never answered their phone again, lol. I'm sorry for all the questions, I'd just like to start preparing mentally and sort of financially for this move. I'm so ready to get out of Long Island and heard a lot of nice things about Lewis. How is housing on post? Is their usually a long wait list for E6 housing? Just curious! Any advice is much appreciated. Sorry again, and Thank You in advance!!!

I'm not in the Army but I visited NYC and didn't care for it at all but then again I'm not a big city guy. If you enjoy suburban and country living then you should like it here. An Interesting fact is Seattle-Tacoma actually gets 8 less inches of rain than NYC a year.

Lol!! Cool fact!! How are the snow days out there?

Not very much snow in Tacoma. The last time we got anything over half an inch was a few years ago. The great thing is that there is know within a couple of hours' drive so you have the convenience of snow for fun, without the inconvenience of having to drive in it and deal with it on a daily basis. Mt. Rainier has snow year round!

Oh that sounds awesome! We've had snow for what feels like forever here already lol I'm over it!

When my husband got out of the Army nine months ago, they still shipped a single POV, but again, that was nine months ago.
We always drove our POV's. "Partial DITY"
My husband drove his Ram, hauling a trailer with a 86 Trans Am on it. I drove a G6. All with three kids, two large dogs, and a cat. From Washington to Oklahoma. Was tiring, but we made it. Army paid for our travel up front.

I would live off post. I'd also wait till kindergarten. preschool isn't free, and it's only 2.5 hrs.
