My husband's ETS was the 27th of this month. We were expecting his final check to come today or tomorrow. I checked the bank, it wasn't pending like usual.
He called finance and they said they are holding it for audit, and it could take a couple weeks... which in military terms is probably a month!
Is this normal?

treywilliamsmommy --- 12 years ago -

My husbands ETS was the 29th of Nov and we still haven't gotten his last pay check we called DFAS today and they told us that the pay was released but we need to call finance at Lewis and have them release it.

ella ella --- 12 years ago -

They always hold his last check, ACAP should have notified him of this.

to make sure that he doesnt owe any money and the army doesnt owe him any.

MASC --- 12 years ago -

yeah... nobody told him. and he has been on terminal leave since november, so he hasnt had any contact with anyone at ft lewis.

he called his brother who has etsed twice and he didnt remember them ever holding his check.

if they were smart they could do things like this before its time to pay people. just another reason to add to the list of why we are glad he is finally done!

Sandra --- 12 years ago -

My husband got medical discharge and his last check came in w/the lump sum a few weeks later. We werent notified either.

brittney --- 12 years ago -

We were told they would do this both times we got out of the army. They didnt tell my mom though when my dad retired. Its normal.

brittney --- 12 years ago -

Sorry meant its normal for them to hold the check for up to 30 days

treywilliamsmommy --- 12 years ago -

MASC we called finance today to see about my husbands last pay and they said that they are backed up and are just now getting to Nov 27th pay, they said that they should get to Nov 29 in a couple days.

MASC --- 12 years ago -

oh lord. we arent counting on seeing his pay any time soon. i dont know how it is state by state, but their are laws about getting your final check to you in a timely manner in oregon. we have had to deal with it before for a different job.

we are having issues with his unemployment too. apparently youre not allowed to go on a trip to visit family or youre screwed.

oh well. he is supposed to start his new job next week. cant say it enough, so glad to be (almost) done with the bs!

sandra, youre lucky. my husband was supposed to 'fly through the med board' last year. he made the mistake of transferring to lewis to be with family and got stuck in that madigan overturning of diagnosis business so had to just wait it out til ETS.

I am not sure why I would have expected anyuthing less form the military :( this scares me. My husband just got his final numbers and we are waiting to come down on transboc (?) or something like that so we can move. He is taking 90 days of leave but even though he will be getting monthly checks once he is out we where looking forward to his final check to put money down on a house. How can they be that backed up I mean really. It Jan and they are just now working on the end of Nov, this can not be legal. Masc there is nothing easy about the med board here, it is crazy and has so many loop holes it isnt funny so I can see why your husband just waited it out, my husband has been doing this for almost 2 years only to get his numbers back and find out that Madigan decided he wasnt injured in combat even though all his medical records said he was. He even has records from Germany where he was flown to. So he had to fight the wordage on it. I hope nothing but the best for all of you and that yalls pay comes in soon

MASC --- 12 years ago -

yes. in hindsight, he shouldve just stayed in georgia to do the med board.

he has medical records from 3 countries and 3 different bases in the states.
its been over two years and he is also still waiting for his cib and purple heart.

so, everyone that didnt know about this... save up! youre not getting paid when you are done.

MASC --- 12 years ago -

my husband checked his mypay and for this pay period they put $.00. last pay period they didnt post anything.
should i assume this means he wont be getting anything at all, or that they were just slacking last pay period?

i am a little worried because they were trying to say that his gear was missing when he was clearing, even though he was not liable for it because he was medevaced out and it had already been cleared. he got it cleared again before he left, but the way things go for us they will probably try to make him pay.

babydreams --- 12 years ago -

It sounds like they took his pay for some reason. Maybe they didnt get the memo that he was cleared intime. The military is so fast to take pay and so slow to give it back.

HotFlashinMandi --- 12 years ago -

Masc some where in my mind I believed you mention your husband was getting med boarded out. Is that right? If so then his Peblo told him at some point when they inform you of the last papers you need to physically bring into them after all it's said and done that it's usually a three month period where you won't get paid anything. My friend finally got his first check past month and he finish his med board and moved back home to alaska in July. It's just rediculous! They told him he needs to come in and sign the very lady paper again because they lost the one he have them.

LJsMomma --- 12 years ago -

My husband is going through the medboard process right now. He started in July. Early December they said the earliest we were looking at getting out of here was April. Before that we were thinking August. Spent a bunch of money to go home for Christmas, we get back and they said all of his stuff was back and we are leaving in 2 weeks!! Now we are rushing to do everything. We always have the worst luck with everything so we thought this process would take forever. Somehow his is going faster then normal and he has a very unique case.. I knew we had to wait a month or so after to start getting his va benefits but I hope it doesn't take to long! We are buying a house when we get home

MASC --- 12 years ago -

no, he was removed from the med board because of the ptsd overturn. he was told different things by different people and was supposed to be chaptered out, but then they decided he couldnt go that route.

we had to just wait out the last year of his contract.
