My son went to Hawaii schools the majority of his school until we canme here when he was in middl school. I need to teach him how to write in cursive becaue Hawaii schools didnt (why I have no idea but oh well) I have gone online and printed out handouts for him to use and help him practice, but my question is I guess for ay teachers out here, Is there a better way to do it? Or a program I can buy that will help him? I already feel bad enough because I didnt know he didnt know how to write in cursive so I will do what is needed to teach him. Thanks!

Have you tried Handwriting Without Tears? I know this is what they use in my daughter's school and I think my son's. I've seen a big improvement in their handwriting the last year or so.

I was home schooled from 1st to 6th grade, and I wasn't taught to write anything but cursive. To this day it's weird for me to write in non-cursive, but I do so that other people can read my hand writing, lol.

i have heard rumors that most states are doing away with teaching cursive!!!

Do they do that here in WA State? If so, I am not aware of it. None of my kids have been taught cursive here.

I think it was last year (3rd grade) here in WA that my son learned cursive at school.

Makes me feel better that I am not alone, I know that it is not a must but I do feel he needs to know it, he is in High School now and feels bad because he does not have a "signature" like ht eother kids. I too have heard that they are doing away with it too, not sure why though. Thanks details I will try that site

I think it should be taught in handwriting. Wait...do they even have handwriting classes anymore? I have been teaching one of mine since early summer, he is getting it down pretty well, just not fully. I have dry erase writing boards with the line on it that they have on writing paper. I bought them at Target in the Dollar section right as you walk in, as well as the 2pks of dry erase markers. It seemed to really help him understand where to place the letters, as well as I write with him at the very same time on my board so he has a visual.

If you have an Iphone or Ipad, you can get the CursiveWriting App. My daughter who is in 3rd grade downloaded it to practice. My 4 yr old loves it too. You trace it with your finger and it scores you on how well you did.

We have the android version of it, I am going to look on there and see if they have an app like that Thanks!
