hubz is deployed right now and said that he just got orders to Houston TX. we're not due to ets till dec 2013, so it was a shock to see we got orders so early on. i've tried looking online for any info, but couldn't really find anything except it has to do with training for reserves and national guard which were not. so, i'm hoping anyone has info. they'd be happy to share with me i'd super appreciate it. 

Ft. Sam Houston is a nice base and every person I have known that has been there loved it. It is a smaller base though. Aso with orders that far out it could change and probably will 

thanks..i had no clue there was even a ft. sam houston. lol he prob. just assumed it was houston TX. i'm hoping it'll change but he says its pretty much locked in and we're due there in aug. of next year. i just don't know if i'll be able to handle the heat..lol but thanx for the info, at least now i can do a little research. 

Fort Sam is a large base in San Antonio,TX, about 3 hrs from Houston,TX

Houston is about 3 hours away from San Antonio. I didnt know there was a post in Houston. Or that there was a chance anyone could get orders there. Its a HUGE city...busy busy busy. Lots to do and lots of culture. Enjoy the rain while you have it. TX gets rain, not all the time but a true texan enjoys the crazy thunderstorms. They are actual quite beautiful and in a way romantic. Im jealous. I want to go back to TX so bad lol 

Unless you met Ft Sam Houston which is sweet and a non deployable duty station and also in MY hometown. Triple jealous :) 

yah he said it was a non deployable unit, i just can't seem to find anything on it. or what i do find is kinda confusing. his captain thinks he was picked for it, but their still trying to do research on it. his orders say 1st batallion 289 ts cs-css. i've used google,yahoo, avg...lol literally all the search engines and some give me that its in fort hood and some tell me it has to do with training army reserves. so yah, i'm hoping he'll be able to give me more info soon that way i can plan accordingly. 

There is a large reserve base(Ellington Field) here in Houston, probably not what you're talking about though. My husband isn't medical and doesn't have a chance to get to Ft Sam, San Antonio is our FAVORITE place! He was just home on leave and we spent time at the Riverwalk, always a blast! 

Yah my husb. just confirmed it's fort Sam Houston. Seeing as every1 only has good things to say about it, I'm getting excited. Glad this site is around because I know I sound super ditzy tryin to figure out where we're going next. lol 

We were at Fort Sam. It was nice. SA is beautiful. There are amazing flea markets, the Alamo, Riverwalk and lots of places to hike. Downtown is a little touristy but still fun. Some of the base housing is a little older style, but they have redone the inside so it is nice. You should love it there :-) 

Ths healthcare at BAMC is worse than Madigan though. It is a large hospital. 

Yes it is possible to get order that far our in advanced dec 2010 we got orders to Lewis but our report date wasn't till the fallowing October or November which we got out of because it was for 160th which my husband doesnt qualify. But you also can come down on orders and not have much time before you leave. We came down on orders for Germany feb 1st this yr our report date was may 10th we had a 3 month notice which didn't give us much time to set anything up so we asked for a 60 day extension so we just got here in July. Which I don't see why everyone thinks Germany is so great maybe I just have not give it enough time but I think I'd rather be stationed in the states 

I had a friend who lived there for a few years and they LOVED it!! San Antonio has a lot going on so they really enjoyed their time there. My ex daughter in law and my daughter's ex boyfriend (wow lot of exes there huh? lol) both went to AIT there since they are medics. 

BAMC isn't horrible....Smh. I used to work there, its a great hospital KayzMa. You will love SA. Not too many posts in a major city.
