Does anyone here have food allergies? I never did, then I developed a shellfish allergy and all of a sudden I break out for no reason. I have been tested for everything under the sun but today after lunch at Farrellis my eye swelled and I got hives all in the face and hands. Everything I ate today, I have eaten there before. A couple of weeks ago I was thisclose to using my epi pen because my hands and up my arms I developed a really bad rash, I itched everywhere, turned completely red in the face and the worst symptom my throat was almost completely shut. I took one benadryl, when I decided to take a second one I was having trouble swallowing the water and pill. I also had to use the inhaler. I had only drank 1/2 glass of a wine I have had many times before and no food yet. The other time this happened it was the same crap, I hadn't even eaten anything. I am so frustrated because my husband is getting medically discharged and I am afraid of being w/o insurance and going into anaphylactic shock again.
Wait, so this happened without even eating anything? Did they skin or blood test you? Had you been off any and all antihistamines for atleast 3 days? My daughter has multiple food allergies. Like you, sometimes she can eat something one day but the next day she will react.
Yep without even having eaten. Just some wine i hav ehad before. I have had endless blood tests several skin tests for foods, grains, and chemicals. I am on zyrtec daily and nasonex frequently. I am very allergic to airborne allergens, on a daily basis i feel i have a bad cold especially in the mornings and my head is so congested that i feel my brain is in a haze but the tightening of the chest and closing of my throat is what frightens me
I am the queen of food allergies! I was born allergic to milk, tomatoes and chocolate. After I got pregnant with my son I suddenly became deathly allergic to shellfish. I am also allergic to dogs and alternaria mold which is found all over the states in the soil.
How did you get tested? Skin prick or blood testing? Blood testing is the best way to get accurate allergy testing done and it is much safer. MAMC tried to kill me when the did the skin test on me, I crashed in the allergy testing clinic and woke up attached to all kinds of machines. All I remember before is that they had just finished pricking my skin and suddenly I started coughing and couldn't breath. Not fun!
One thing I have learned is that almost all restaurants cross contaminate everything even when they say they do not. We went one place and they said they did shellfish separately but then I watched this guy use the same tongs for shellfish and the other food, dude no way!!! I have also been told by people that think they know everything that the oil cooks so hot it cooks the allergy food out of the food they are cooking, what a joke so not true.
I also can no longer garden without using a face mask when I am digging or raking and the soil gets disturbed because of the life threatening allergy I have to alternaria mold. I always premed before going out to work in the yard or on windy days when I have to be outside.
You don't have mold in your house do you? The last apartment we lived in before we bought our house had mold damage and I was sick all the time from it.
@shamwow The problem with the ImmunoCaps testing is that if you have a very high IgE, it will kind of create "background noise" and cause some flase positives and/or false high. The skin testing is more accurate as long as you haven't had any antihistaminesin your system for a few days!
I would highly, and I mean HIGHLY suggest an elimnation diet, as this is by far the most accurate way to find out what is causing your allergy!
