Hello,
I am number 13/77 on the new hillside waitlist (3 bedroom) today is my last day to let my off post apartments know whether I am staying or going. If i do not renew by the 1st with my apts I will be paying 1700/mo on a month-to-month contract. my question is can i renew my lease and when I get offered a home will I get orders or P/W in order to get me out of my lease??? I have called housing but I keep getting forwarded to an answering machine and I need an answer by 1130 so I know whether or not I need to go to my offpost housing office durin gmy lunch
I appreciate any advice/help anyone is able to give me
Thank you so much,
Heather

No sadly just being offered a home on post will not get you out of your lease. PCS/ETS type orders usually do, but not being offered housing. I would try and contact your New Hillside office and see if they can give you some info about a timeline.

Keep calling. If you can't get through, call different numbers. Try the main housing line, and tell them no one is answering their phones. They'll have to deal with you and give you a working number if you can't reach a person. I once had a number for housing that NEVER got me a person, and no matter how many messages I left, no one ever called me back. I started calling the main housing office, expressed my frustrations, and they started handing out new numbers.

I was offered a home in New Hillside while I was still in the 20s. If you're on the housing list, and they know you are in a lease, they will not be calling you. You need to call and be specific and express the direness of the situation.

As for your lease situation, try to swindle a month-long lease so that you're okay on both fronts. The housing office will float you at the top of the list if you tell them you aren't ready to move onto post when they offer it to you. If you sign another annual lease, you'll never get out of there without sacrificing some serious money. :(

I was able to get out of my off-post lease agreement when we were offered a home on-post, because we had it in our contract to do so, and we verbally heard our property manager tell us so TWICE before move in. Of course, when it came down to the wire and we got offered our home on post 6 months into our contract, our property manager tried to go back on her word. We took our contract to JAG and they wrote out a whole statement saying they'd back us up if we weren't allowed out of our contract and given back our deposit. Needless to say, once Windermere in Yelm heard the word "JAG", they were tooting a whole different story. Since then, I hear they've changed their contract wording to say that you are no longer able to get out of your rental agreement just because of being offered a home on-post. *sigh* Sorry guys.

I am trying to work that issue I am hoping that since they say we are the 1st on the list for february so Im hoping they can help us out

If you have time I would go in there in person. Our housing coordinator didn't return any of my husband's calls but we were able to speak to her right away when we went to the office.
