So the Medela is out, we are no longer going with it, it is just too expensive and I can't ask someone to buy that for me! So I am looking around and it's kinda overwhelming to me for some reason....

My first pump was an Evenflo and it was total crap, don't even bother suggesting one.

What did you use/have? Do you know anything about the:

The First Years MiPump
Avent Pump(which is almost as expensive as the Medela so it might be out as well)

Any other suggestions?

Does Madigan rent them? I had both my kids at civilian hospitals and when i asked about breast pumps i was able to rent one and it was really nice!

I used the Medela. They aren't that bad if you get a one pump one. Two pump ones might be more expensive but for my one it was like 60 dollars. Didn't think that was horrible. I also bought an avent hand pump. Wasn't as great as the electric one but I liked it that way if I was holding my son while he was sleeping, I could do it when I knew he was about to wake up but not have to wake him up with the noise of the electric one.

I think it depends on how often you are going to use it, if you are working and trying to pump then the Medela might be the only one that will allow you to keep doing that for the longest time. If you are just needing one to make a bottle here and there you could go with a simple less expensive one. For my first I had a manual Advent one that worked fine but I only used it 5 or 6 times. For my second we had feeding problems the first few weeks and the hospital lent me a hospital grade Medela which allowed me to pump and then eventually nurse when baby was ready. I think the less often you are planning on using it the less fancy it needs to be.

Renting from Madigan is out of the question because we are pcsing soon after delivery. I plan on pumping at least once a day, maybe more to increase my milk flow, I plan on storing up to six months worth of breast milk though so once I stop breast feeding he will still use breast milk rather than formula until he is one.

If you have WIC they will usually give you a medela breast bump. thats what they gave me in decemember of last year. its a double electric pump its awesome!

Hey!! I used THIS ONE and am selling it now. Works amazing!!

Sorry I meant to write more about mine.. it's the First Years Natural double electric pump. VERY easy to use and to clean, and the suction is incredible! I would be done pumping in 8-10 minutes and was able to get so much out. It helped bring my milk in within the first 2 weeks... and I was able to store up so much milk while I was still breastfeeding. I've used avent before, do not like it - and I tried medela at the hospital but I honestly preferred the one I have better. I am no longer breastfeeding, and have my pump on LYS with the link in my other post :) Good luck!!

I don't use WIC, Morgan thank you but my sister is buying me a new one!

I got really lucky and the LC's at Madigan gave me one because my daughter wouldn't latch and I became a full time pumper for a year. It was a new Medela, it had an ugly green cover, but it worked! If you can't afford a Medela, that might be an option for you.

That might actually happen because last time I guess I made the mistake of telling them I had a pump at home. With my daughter I was told I hav flat nipples that apparently is a HORRRRRRRRRRRRIBLE thing when you are breast feeding!! I was cracked and bleeding before I even left the hospital.

wootage --- 13 years ago -

Yeah, I'd ask to speak with the LC's while you're still in the hospital.
Dorothy and Rhea are awesome ladies.
