Ok, so remember i'm new at this stuff! So I went to the ESC sign up thing to see what they were all about and met some nice ladies and one of them was talking about FRG. Well I know that FRG mean Family Readiness Group but that doesn't tell me much. I asked my husband who really didn't explain it well. So now I'm asking all of you! What is the FRG and what do they do?

Athena --- 15 years ago -

Family Readiness group. They are group of Military women in your command that get together for support, help and to be informative. Hope this helps http://coa328thfamilyreadinessgroup.com/219809.ihtml Also if you log into the www.armyfrg.org website you can find your husbands commands FRG and see how active they are and what they have going on.

I just used the armyfrg site and found my husband's unit. His information isn't found?? Grr I haven't heard from these people!

Athena --- 15 years ago -

His information isn't found?? You may need to go to the Brigade FRG then, so look for that or you can always request one :) What is your husband in? Maybe I can help. :)'

Have your husband go straight to his co's and ask about the frg info. Some units dont have individual frg's. When we first got here my husbands unit didnt have one, they only started one up when they got the deployment dates, then made it manditory for all soldiers to donate funds to get it started. Our old unit had a GREAT frg but this unit isnt very organized so i gave up onit :(

you can get on the list to receive emails from your frg leader and there is usually openingd for certain positions like care team member, poc etc.. if thats something you wanna do

its helpful being on the mailing and call list, then your not left out of the loop and always having to rely on someone else to get you information :) i get weekly updates from my FRG, and i go onto the virtualfrg site too its very helpful

yeah it is very helpful and you get ideas of whats goin like events and what not on post and off and you get info on whats going on with deployment and when the next frg meeting is etc..

When we first got here my husbands unit didnt have one, they only started one up when they got the deployment dates, then made it manditory for all soldiers to donate funds to get it started this is a MAJOR no no... the command cannot make anyone donate to start an FRG .. the funds come from the army not the soldiers. I dunno who did that but they can get into serious trouble for this. There are Army regs that prohibit the forcing of donations by soldiers as well as they are only allowed to accept so much in donations per year. I am very active in my FRG and love it. I have had some awful experiences with FRG's before as well as great ones but I chose to do it to be involved with my hubbys world more and to do it for the spouses who may need support help and a friend.

the command cannot make anyone donate to start an FRG .. It was a miserable time when they actually did the frg meetings the entire unit HAD to be there. They told everyone they NEEDED to donate atleast $20 for the fund to start so we could set everything up. Our unit had about 3 married soldiers and 2 married co's the rest were all single soldiers who were there becasue they HAD to be and they were all a bit drunk or so rude becasue it was taking up their personal time for something they felt they didnt need. Then they highly suggested we take the kids (We were the only ones with children) to the afterhours care center that provided care during meetings (ever try to get a baby sitter for a 2 hour meeting half an hour before it started...not fun) We had a total of 3 meetings before the frg just stopped sending out info and emails and doing any type of meetings. Now that I sit and think about it I wonder what happened to the funds we did raise and the funds the army gave for the frg.

wow that frg was messed up..... they shoulda set it up so you guys could ge free hourly care if you needed it during the meeting and NEVER to they need money to start anf frg... the money comes from through the unit from the Army. I know this for a fact cause im the treasurer for our FRG. Thats how I also know they cant make you donate money.
